Our Commercial Flue Services

We design and supply many different flue systems to suit many different applications. All our designs are specifc to the individual projects.

P0

High performance chimney systems

High-volume, high-fit. The work we do most weeks.

06 verticals
FBS Flues commercial installation — Bakery oven flues
01 / 15P0Bakery oven flues

Flues for commercial bakeries

Bread, deck, and rack ovens push hot, moist, particulate-laden gas at sustained temperatures. We design twin-wall stainless flue runs that handle the load without surface temperatures becoming a personnel hazard, route around existing extraction ducting.
FBS Flues commercial installation — Coffee roaster flues
02 / 15P0Coffee roaster flues

Coffee roaster flues and extraction

We supply and install flue and extraction systems for many different manufacturers which require specific flue systems to suit the installlation in varying locations
FBS Flues commercial installation — Biomass boiler flues
03 / 15P0Biomass boiler flues

Biogas plant flue systems

FBS designs, fabricates and installs biogas flue systems for sewage treatments plants, and food-waste digesters across the UK.
FBS Flues commercial installation — Generator exhaust
04 / 15P0Generator exhaust

Generator exhaust systems

We design, supply and install generator exhaust systems, including attenuation to reduce noise impact on neighbouring properties. All installations are carried out to the relevant British Standards and building regulations, so you can be confident the system performs safely and keeps disruption to a minimum.
FBS Flues commercial installation — Data centre generator stacks
05 / 15P0Data centre generator stacks

Independent stacks for data-centre backup generators

As we have many years of experience fitting generator exhausts and attenuation we would be happy for any inquiries

External masts and free-standing chimneys

We design external structural masts and free-standing chimneys that route the flues outside the building envelope — fewer fire-stopped penetrations, simpler compliance pathway, faster sign-off. Coordinate with your structural engineer and building-safety manager from day one.
P1

Secondary verticals

Specialist applications, regular cadence.

03 verticals
07 / 15Distillery flues

New UK distilleries are opening at pace — and pot stills, condenser exhaust, and mash-tun boilers each have their own flue requirements. We work alongside your stillage supplier (Forsyths, McMillan, Frilli, et al) to size and route the stack work that fits the distillery's footprint and the local planning regime.

08 / 15Crematorium stacks

Cremation runs at 850 °C+ with strict MCERTS emissions monitoring. We install the high-temp stacks, gas-tight gaskets, and stack-sampling ports the Environment Agency demands — for both human and pet crematoria. Heat recovery integration where the operator is using it.

09 / 15Pizza oven flues

Neapolitan-style ovens burning at 450 °C through sustained service. We size the flue for the oven's thermal output, install creosote-rated stainless that won't ember-fire, and route through commercial roof structure with the right fire-stopped penetrations. The flue work only — we don't supply the oven.

Niche verticals

Lower volume but on-spec and accepted. Send us the brief.

MRI machines need a quench pipe to vent helium safely if the magnet quenches.

MRI machines need a quench pipe to vent helium safely if the magnet quenches. Spec is unforgiving — 316L stainless, gas-tight welded joints, sized for the rapid-discharge volume, routed through the building envelope to a safe outdoor termination. We work to the manufacturer's drawings (Siemens, GE, Philips) and the radiology consultant's room layout.
11 / 15P2

District heating networks serving housing estates, campuses, or industrial parks share one or more central boiler plants — and the flue work has to match.

District heating networks serving housing estates, campuses, or industrial parks share one or more central boiler plants — and the flue work has to match. We design sized stacks, multi-boiler manifold configurations, and the certified flue-and-pipe assemblies the planning authority wants on record.

Smoking produces creosote-laden, low-temperature gas — flues need cleaning access, condensate drainage, and routing that keeps the working environment compliant with food-safety (HACCP) and air-quality regulations.

Smoking produces creosote-laden, low-temperature gas — flues need cleaning access, condensate drainage, and routing that keeps the working environment compliant with food-safety (HACCP) and air-quality regulations. We install the flue and extraction work; you specify the smoker.

High-temperature continuous-operation kilns and furnaces in workshops, schools, and production potteries.

High-temperature continuous-operation kilns and furnaces in workshops, schools, and production potteries. Gas or wood-fired, with proper draft control and air supply. We spec the stack, the fire-stopped penetrations, and the dilution or heat-recovery points for the bigger industrial installs.

School, university, hospital, and pharma labs all need fume cupboards extracting to atmosphere with the right airflow and chemical-resistant ducting.

School, university, hospital, and pharma labs all need fume cupboards extracting to atmosphere with the right airflow and chemical-resistant ducting. We install the ducting, the extraction fans, the high-velocity discharge stacks, and the work to BS EN 14175 and ACGIH guidelines that the safety officer wants documented.
15 / 15P2

Offshore-rated stainless and marine-grade fasteners for the salt environment.

Offshore-rated stainless and marine-grade fasteners for the salt environment. Fire-rated penetrations through deck plates, integration with the platform's safety case. We work as a specialist installer alongside the operator's safety contractor on suitable-scope work.

Delivery / Process

How we pull a job through.

Five steps, every commercial install. Same sequence whether it’s a single bakery oven or a Tier IV genset farm — the only thing that changes is the spec.

  1. 01

    Design

Site survey, draughting, BS EN 13384 sizing, material selection by application.

  2. 02

    Source

304, 316L, or Inconel by corrosion + temperature load. EN 1856-1 product spec.

  3. 03

    Install

    Multi-trade coordination, fire-stopping to BS EN 1366-1, structural sign-off.

  4. 04

    Commission

Calibrated flue gas analysis. Formal report for the manufacturer, insurer, regulator.

  5. 05

    Maintain

Annual contract, CCTV survey, MCERTS coordination. Documented for audit.

Built to spec

The regulations that decide the install.

Four standards you’ll see on every commercial flue handover pack we deliver. Plain English on what they are and why they matter.

AD-J

Approved Document J

UK Building Regulations on combustion appliances. Paragraph 2.9 governs flue sizing and back-pressure for kit above 45 kW.

Why it matters

Without this, Building Control rejects the install. We sign it off.

13384

BS EN 13384

Sizing standard. Iterative calc accounting for gas temperature, friction, bend losses, in-line equipment back-pressure.

Why it matters

Get this wrong and the appliance derates or trips on commissioning.

1856-1

BS EN 1856-1

Twin-wall stainless chimney product spec. Pressure, temperature, fire-performance ratings.

Why it matters

Tells the manufacturer's warranty engineer the kit is on-spec.

1366-1

BS EN 1366-1

Fire-stopping test standard. Defines EI90/EI120 ratings for flue penetrations through fire-rated separating elements.

Why it matters

Post-Grenfell, the safety case lives or dies on this one.

Technical depth

How commercial flue work actually breaks down.

**Why commercial flues are not just bigger residential ones** **A residential chimney handles flue gases at 20–40 °C with modest flow rates and intermittent use. A commercial flue deals with exhaust temperatures of 200–600 °C at high flow rates, often running continuously. That difference is what drives every other decision — material specification, insulation thickness, sizing method, and which regulations apply.** **Twin-wall stainless specified for domestic installations will not hold up in a commercial application. Sustained operation — an emergency generator running on standby cycles or a bakery oven going through a full production day — produces the kind of repeated thermal cycling that creates stress-corrosion conditions standard 304 stainless simply is not rated for.**
